T
he slogan for this fiscal year is "Inheritance and Progress."

My idea of "inheritance" is "to gain understanding in the thoughts and ideas of our predecessors," and my idea of "progress" is "to gradually change into a better thing."

Those are my impressions on the words "inheritance" and "progress." What would be your impression on these words? Are they any different from mine?

"Inheritance"
The fiscal year of 2020-2021 marks the 47th anniversary of our club's foundation. It was founded by 23 charter members on September 6th, 1973, and a total of 229 members had been enrolled to the club since then. This includes someone who was a member for only a period of fewer than two hundred days. However, it is the thoughts and ideas of each and every member that has created our club today, regardless of the length of their membership enrollment.
People often comment on the lack of factions in the Kyoto Rakuhoku Rotary Club. They also mention about the robust appetite of the Kyoto Rakuhoku Rotary Club. We are also famous for always being lively. These reputations make me believe that Kyoto Rakuhoku Rotary Club is one of the brightest and warmest clubs. This atmosphere is exactly what I would like us to "inherit."

"Progress"
When I accepted the honor of becoming the President initially, I was thinking about making our club "progress" into a more lively and bigger club through conducting many major projects.
However, in this unprecedented emergency situation brought on us by the Novel Coronavirus, I believe that we must focus on maintaining the precious relation between members and solidify the foundation of the club, more so than to think about expanding the club projects. Then, you may ask, why is the word "progress" still not erased from my slogan? It is because I believe that such time of emergency is the time for us, the members of the Kyoto Rakuhoku Rotary Club to put together our abilities based on the "inheritance" and to "progress" into a better state.

Let's get over this difficulty with the united power of Kyoto Rakuhoku Rotarians!
